Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, recently visited Hinesville and spoke to more than sixty five Coldwell Banker Holtzman,Realtors sales associates and other area dignitaries about the national housing market.

Gillespie, one of the housing industry's top spokespeople who is routinely interviewed by such outlets as CNBC, Fox Business Channel, CNNMoney.com, New York Times and others, spoke about how real estate remains a local business with each market differing greatly.

"Just as there is no national weather map, we are working hard to educate consumers that each market and neighborhood varies in such critical indicators as appreciation, inventory and time on market," Gillespie said. "To me, this is one of the greatest times to buy a home in my 33 years in the business. In most markets, inventory is up giving buyers choices. Combined with interest rates being at near historic low levels and home prices leveling off after the 1995-2005 bull run, this should help buyers 'get off the fence.

I am concerned that many, including first time home buyers, might miss out on this opportunity because they are reading national headlines and not gaining a local perspective. This is especially important for the military families stationed at Fort Stewart. So many are overseas protecting our country and only getting national reports about the housing market. When they return, they are pre-conditioned to not explore the long-term benefits of home ownership which include appreciation that has run 6.2 percent annually, according to the National Association of Realtors, over the last 25 years. We also have an obligation in our industry to educate buyers and sellers that they move for lifestyle reasons and to view their home as a home, not a winning lottery ticket."

Gillespie joined Coldwell Banker Holtzman, Realtors at the firm's annual awards dinner held at The First City Club in Savannah. Gillespie also wished Coldwell Banker Holtzman, Realtors owners George and Babs Holtzman well on their 40th wedding anniversary.
