Collaboration Between Leon County Law Enforcement Agencies is Key to Improved Crime Solving Capabilities
Teamwork and cooperation between LCSO and TPD will be the necessary component to leverage the assets of each of the agencies and help each other serve their communities more effectively.


/Georgia News Articles/ - July 25, 2008 - TALLAHASSEE, FL, July 28, 2008 - It's clearly evident that crime is up in Leon County. It's also a known fact that population growth is also a contributor to increased crime. As Leon County continues to grow in size and in population, Tommy Mills, the candidate for Leon County Sheriff, agrees that partnership and collaboration between the Leon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) will be the key to improved crime solving capabilities.

As it stands, there is little cooperation between LCSO and TPD, and both agencies operate independently of each other. The problem exists when neither agencies work together to fight escalating crime. Imagine if LCSO could be better informed on the crime that occurs throughout the county. Imagine if both agencies could collaborate to fight larger, more serious crimes together. As the newly elected Sheriff for Leon County, Tommy Mills will work to fight crime at its roots. He will work to implement information sharing between LCSO and TPD to improve crime analysis and criminal intelligence and to identify crime trends and patterns to help fight crime at its root. He will also implement a joint task force, standardized training, and cost sharing for more effective and efficient law enforcement operations across the county. There will be a stronger initiative to implement a community policing effort and make more officers present by patrol car and on foot in those communities where crime is most prevalent. Under his new leadership and management, Tommy Mills will make it his purpose to promote teamwork and cooperation across the board.

Mills has worked for the Sheriff's Office on the correctional side since the mid-80s and served a short stint as a volunteer reserve officer for the Florida Highway Patrol prior to that.
